National Day Reception held on 1 February 2016

          On 1st February, Ambassador H.E. Mr. Pankaj Saxena hosted a reception to celebrate the 67th Republic Day of India at Renaissance Hotel in Minsk, Belarus. 

          The First Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Mr. Aleksandr Mikhnevich represented his country as the chief guest at the event.  The reception was attended by around 200 people comprising of members of Belarus-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, Deputy Ministers and other senior functionaries of various ministries/departments, members of the diplomatic corps in Minsk, academicians, Indian nationals residing in Belarus, Belarusian friends of India from Art of Living, ISKCON, yoga teachers, etc. 

          The event began with the lighting of traditional Indian lamp jointly by the Ambassador and the Chief Guest, singing of national anthems by a group of young Belarusian girls of Sapna Dance Group, speeches and two dance performances, namely, Gujarat State’s Dandiya Dance by the students of Amarpali Dance Group and an Indian semi-classical dance by the students of Sapna Dance Group.   The guests thereafter savoured themselves with the Indian and other cuisine.

          Ambassador in his short speech underlined the importance that India attaches to its relationship with Belarus as well as the remarkable achievements in bilateral relations in 2015, namely, the first state visit of our President to Belarus in June 2015, signing of important documents during the visit, grant of Market Economy Status and announcement of US$ 100 million of credit line to Belarus.  The Chief Guest in his speech expressed happiness on the excellent relations between India and Belarus at all levels, India’s assistance to Belarus in various areas from time to time, willingness of Belarus to participate in India’s Make in India program, and the need to further enhance bilateral trade and economic relations.
